SCHEDULING, FEES & INSURANCE

Referral Process and Scheduling

New clients can self-refer directly by calling (902) 561-1100 or by emailing info@bethtoomey.ca.  Our Client Services Coordinator will follow up with you to answer your questions and match you with the therapist best suited for your unique situation.  Third party referrals from healthcare and related service providers are also welcome.  Referral sources can communicate client information by phone, fax or mail, all of which are listed on the Contact page of this website. 

 

This private practice is purposefully operated to ensure clients experience minimal waiting times for initial and follow-up appointments.   Appointments are offered on weekdays, evenings and weekends (Saturdays) to accommodate a varity of schedules.  Sessions are 60 minutes in duration, at a mutually agreed upon time and frequency.  

Professional Fees

The fee for psychotherapy is $160.00 per session.  Payment can be made by cash, credit card, debit or cheque and must be received in full at the time of the appointment

 

Receipts are provided for clients who wish to request reimbursement from their insurance company.  Therapy sessions may be claimed as a medical expense on annual income tax where eligible. 

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

If clients need to cancel or reschedule a session at least 24 hours notice must be provided, as that slot could be utilized by another client.  Please note that 24-hour advance cancellation or rescheduling of appointments is required to avoid being billed for the session.

 

Cancelling or rescheduling an appointment in less than 24 hours, or failing to attend an appointment, will result in the client being responsible for the full cost of the session.

 

Insurance plans & third party providers do not cover fees associated with late cancellations or missed appointments.  

Emergencies

Due to the fact this service is an independent private practice, "on call" or emergency coverage is unable to be provided to clients.  If an urgent mental health issue should arise, please contact:                                                                                                NSHA Mental Health & Addictions Crisis Line at 1-888-429-8167 (24hrs.,  7 days a week).  You can also call 911 or visit the nearest Emergency Department at a local hospital.

Insurance

If you plan to bill through your health insurance it's best to find out the following information as your first step in arranging therapy services.  Counselling or psychotherapy are reimbursable through many private health insurance plans and third party providers.  Direct billing is available through Medavie Blue Cross, Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB), Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program, and Green Shield/Provider Connect. Partial billing is available through the Criminal Injuries Counselling Program with Victims Services ($85/session paid by CICP; client responsible for the remaining fee).  

Clients are responsible to know the details of their insurance coverage and whether or not counselling services with a clinical social worker is covered by their insurance plan.
